Guided Trail Rides in Hunt Country
Escape to the rolling hills of Columbia County for a leisurely two-hour cross-country trail ride through some of the most beautiful hunt country in New York. Ride across scenic fields and quiet country lanes while experiencing the landscape that has been enjoyed by generations of foxhunters and equestrians.
Following the ride, gather with fellow riders for a relaxed tailgate with refreshments, the perfect way to unwind, share stories from the ride, and enjoy the company of the MRC community.
Whether you're looking to experience new trails, improve your confidence riding in open space, or simply spend a beautiful day on horseback, this is a memorable outing not to be missed.
SCHEDULE
- Riders arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled ride time
- 2-hour guided trail ride
- Tailgate with refreshments following the ride
THE HORSES
Your horse will be groomed, tacked, and ready to ride upon arrival. The horses are trailered from our training facility in Pine Plains and are experienced in open-space riding, foxhunting, hunter paces, and MRC lessons.
The herd includes a variety of breeds and personalities, from athletic Thoroughbreds to quieter Draft horses, carefully matched to riders based on experience and ability.
RIDER LEVEL
Level 2B and above with approval from another MRC ride.

THE SETTING
The Old Chatham Hunt Club, founded in 1928, is one of the oldest and most respected hunt clubs in the United States. Recognized by both the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America and the National Beagle Club, the club is dedicated to preserving the traditions of mounted hunting while promoting stewardship of the countryside and respect for wildlife.
Nestled in the picturesque hills of northern Columbia County, the area offers miles of rolling farmland, quiet lanes, woodlands, and breathtaking scenery. Old Chatham is unique in maintaining both packs of foxhounds and beagles, reflecting its rich equestrian heritage and deep commitment to country traditions.

TRANSPORTATION
Location: Old Chatham, New York
By Car: Approximately 138 miles north of Midtown Manhattan.
Carpooling: Join the MRC Carpooling Group to connect with other riders. We'll also help connect participants during the week leading up to the event.
