Brooklyn Hack Lessons

Ride in the Prospect Park Q Arena this summer! These lessons are for riders who are confident at walk, trot and canter and meet our 2b or higher rider levels.

Your ride starts at the nearby historic stable where you will arrive 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled lesson time to groom, tack and mount. You will then start your ride by going around the Brooklyn traffic in a designated horse lane to enter the park, like on our Brooklyn Hack! Once entering the park you will hack to the arena, this takes about 15 minutes. You will then have a 30 minute lesson that will involve cantering, so you must be proficient at this gait. After the lesson you will hack another 15 minutes or so back to the stables to untack, cool out and put your horse away.

SCHEDULE
-Riders arrive 30 minutes ahead of their lesson time to groom and tack
-Everyone will then mount and head off for the ride which will last around 1 hour
-Expect to spend another 30 minutes or so to untack, groom and put your horse away
(Around 2 hours total)

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • Your horse and tack
  • An instructor to teach the lesson

HORSES

SETTING
Prospect Park opened in 1867, though it was not substantially complete until 1873. The park subsequently underwent numerous modifications and expansions to its facilities. Several additions to the park were completed in the 1890s, in the City Beautiful architectural movement. The park was designed with an intricate system of bridle trails to manage the mode of transportation at that time, horse and carriage! These trails are still maintained today and make for a great place to ride. The outdoor arena in the park is nestled amongst the trees and traffic but has plenty of space to enjoy a lovely ride.
