Level 1 Riding Foundations

Join us for the ultimate beginner introduction to riding! This is an individualized and thoughtfully planned riding series for adults. Learn the fundamentals of Horsemanship, including horse care, riding, groundwork, horse behavior, and safety requirements. Perfect for beginners and those who want to brush up on basics in an intimate setting with great attention to detail.

All riders must FIRST book an Evaluation Ride. This ride will be a walking hack in Prospect Park, a chance for riders to meet some of the team and horses at the facility and determine if the Riding Foundations Package is right for them. Once you submit this booking we will reach out for your details and to set a date for your ride.

After you have been approved through the Evaluation Ride, you can book the Level 1 Riding Foundations Package which encompasses 3 thoughtfully planned lessons covering the topics below in addition to thorough horsemanship skills like catching, leading, grooming, tacking and cool down. Please note we also have a Level 1 Group Lesson that is for riders who have completed the package or have been approved through an Evaluation Ride to join.

Lesson 1: Fundamentals of Horse Care & Riding

Lesson 2: Basics of riding (Position & Balance)

Lesson 3: Rhythm, Posting & Diagonals

SETTING
For your introduction ride you will ride in Prospect Park. The 3.5 mile bridle path features scenic and varying terrain. Prospect Park opened in 1867, though it was not substantially complete until 1873. The park subsequently underwent numerous modifications and expansions to its facilities. Several additions to the park were completed in the 1890s, in the City Beautiful architectural movement.

Your lessons will mainly be held in a small indoor stable and arena. Because this facility is located in the city, space is limited. However this cozy space is a nice introduction for riders to learn the basics and begin their riding journey!
