Ireland Foxhunting Trip
(payment plan available)
Embark on the trip of a lifetime with us for our 3rd big group trip to the Emerald Island! The trip includes 2 full days of thrilling foxhunts with the Galway Blazers, attendance to their annual hunt ball and 2 full days of XC training at Flowerhill. The group will stay in a historic Georgian Country House, not far from all the action, including the lively town of Galway.
On arrival day, we have a group dinner prepared by French Culinary expert and host George, at the house. You can also expect to wake up each morning with a full Irish Breakfast and clean boots from the day before, attended by the wonderful staff on site.
Each morning you will head off to ride with snacks for the day and your group of MRC riders. Hunting in Ireland is for the brave and bold with no options for a second field as all riders set off together. Jumps are mostly not avoidable and days last around 5 glorious hours.
You will also visit an Irish Sporthorse breeding farm and see how the Irish raise such lovely sport horses. Enjoy group dinners, cocktails and the beautiful Irish countryside. This is the trip of a lifetime! You have the option to add an additional day of hunting with County Clare and XC training days at Flowerhill.
The Horses: A mix of Irish Sport Horses and Irish Cobs, these horses know their job! They are well mannered and fit for the jumps and terrain. Our horse provider will pair you with a mount that will be your partner and trusty sidekick for the 2 hunts. Horses arrive tacked and ready for you to mount with assistance for adjusting stirrups and other needs on the ground.
The Hunt: We will be joining County Galway Hunt or the world renowned Galway ‘Blazers’ whose history traces back to the 1700s . You can expect 50-75 riders in the field. The hunt members are very welcoming, social and happy to help guide new riders along. Before the meet there is generally a gather indoors where riders can enjoy a hot port or other beverage and relax before mounting. Most riders mount just minutes before the meet time and we set off for a 4-5 hour adventure. Riders should be very self aware as many rides ride side by side opposed to the single file fields we typically experience in the Northeast.
The Terrain: Most of the territory is lush grass in open fields, we will also encounter some trails, rocky footing and pavement. Jumps are 3-4ft stone walls. As the front of the field clears the walls, stones are knocked down making them more approachable for the middle and back of the field.
Experience: Riders must have hunted in first flight and be at a 4 or 5 level to join.
