Foundational Training Series

Sundays at 12PM

Beginner- Novice Level

Join us for this exciting opportunity to advance your riding and participate in a thoughtfully planned riding series for adults. Take basic riding abilities to the next level, learn about jumping and have your first open space ride. 

*1 makeup lesson is allowed and will be scheduled as a private lesson, which is a shorter duration due to it being a more active riding environment and full attention of the trainer.  

  • August 22nd
    • 30 minutes of horsemanship on grooming and tacking along with basic on the ground manners between you and your horse
    • 1 hour riding lesson focused on:
      • Safety- mounting, adjusting your girth and stirrups while mounted
      • Control- reins, body position, turning and halting
      • Diagonal- trotting and posting on the correct diagonal
  • August 29th
    • 30 minutes for you to groom and tack your own horse, assistance available if needed
    • 1 hour riding lesson focused on:
      • Position- riding upright, building core strength, correct leg position, heels down
      • Endurance- mastering your trot and diagonal for longer periods of time
      • Transitions- transitioning correctly from halt, walk and trot

Skipping Labor Day Weekend

  • September 12th
    • 30 minutes for you to groom and tack your own horse, assistance available if needed
    • 1 hour riding lesson focused on:
      • The Canter- warming up at the trot, getting your horse moving forward, how to ask for the canter and how to ride in this gait. Properly transitioning in and out of the canter. 
  • September 19th
    • 30 minutes for you to groom and tack your own horse, assistance available if needed
    • 1 hour riding lesson focused on:
      • Open space riding- safety out on trail
      • Preparation- uphills, downhills, breaks and controlling an excited horse on the trails
  • September 26th
    • 30 minutes for you to groom and tack your own horse
    • 1 hour hack on the NSBTA trails- ride the beautiful North Salem Bridle Trails. 
    • 1 hour social with other MRC members at the beautiful Summit Farm

Experience: Minimal experience around horses required, this is a rigorous program to get new riders learning the basics quickly, so a dedicated mindset will be key!

Recommendations: Casual riding attire including breeches, boots and helmet. Helmets are available for loan.
